Guest communication is rarely tidy. A traveller books through one channel, asks about parking through another, and follows up about a late arrival an hour before check-in. Meanwhile your team is switching between a property management system, an extranet or two, and whatever else the distribution setup involves.

Every switch costs time, and time is exactly what guest messaging is short of. A question about keys or access at 9pm needs an answer that evening, not the next morning when someone gets round to checking a secondary inbox.

Messaging via API addresses the operational side of that problem: it moves Expedia Group guest conversations into the system your team already has open.

What Messaging via API does

Messaging via API makes Expedia Group guest messages readable and repliable from within your own software. Rather than switching between your own system and Expedia Group's partner interface, the conversation appears alongside your other channels.

Nothing changes for the guest. They message through Expedia Group as they always would. What changes is where your team picks it up.

Why a consolidated inbox matters

Faster responses throughout the stay. Pre-arrival questions, mid-stay issues, and departure logistics all arrive through the same place. Your team doesn't have to remember which channel a booking came through before it can answer.

Fewer cancellations. Quick, consistent communication is linked to up to a 3% reduction in cancellations (Expedia Group, 2022). A guest who gets a straight answer about parking, access, or a changed arrival time is a guest less likely to look for an alternative.

A simpler workflow. Managing messages in the same place you manage rates, availability, and reservations means less context switching and less training. For a team handling volume across several channels, that consolidation compounds.

Stronger guest relationships. Responsiveness is part of the stay experience, not an administrative task attached to it. A guest who can reach you easily during the stay is a guest whose problems get solved while they can still be solved.

Building it into your own system

Expedia Group messaging reaches your system through the NextPax Messaging API, which handles guest communication across connected channels through a single integration. Alongside Expedia Group, the Messaging API is integrated with Airbnb, Booking.com and Vrbo, and is available for channels connected through the NextPax Distribution API.

That single-integration point is the practical argument. Build once, and each additional channel that supports messaging becomes available without further development work on your side.

There is also nothing new to authenticate. Your existing Supply API credentials work for the Messaging API in both sandbox and production, so there are no separate keys to issue, store, or rotate.

Getting started

Messaging is an API integration rather than a setting to switch on, so the work sits with whoever builds and maintains your NextPax integration. In outline: set the property manager's messaging model to API, implement the threads and messages endpoints, and decide whether to receive incoming messages through webhook notifications or by polling. A sandbox is available for testing, and production access follows certification by the NextPax team.

The Messaging API also supports attachments, scheduled messages triggered by reservation, check-in or check-out, and channel-specific auto-reply settings for Airbnb and Booking.com.

The full guide, including the endpoint specification and Notifications API setup, is on the NextPax developer portal. For questions about credentials or certification, contact support@nextpax.com.

One connection, more channels

Messaging is one part of a wider pattern. The value of a channel manager is not only that it pushes rates and availability outward, but that it pulls the operational work of each channel back into a single place: reservations, content, reviews, and guest conversations.

NextPax is an Expedia Group Elite Partner, and Expedia Group connectivity spans the capabilities property managers use day to day. Messaging is an integration project rather than a switch to flip, but it is a contained one, and the operational payoff shows up in every conversation your team no longer has to go looking for.
