2027 consortia programmes: how to reach agency demand through the GDS

A GDS connection makes your property bookable by travel agents. It does not, on its own, put you in front of them. That is what consortia programmes do, and for 2027 there are 24 to choose from, six of them with no participation fee.

What a consortia programme does

A consortium is a network of travel agencies and travel management companies (TMCs) that negotiates hotel rates on behalf of its members. When you join a programme, you agree a rate for that network and it is loaded against a rate code. Agents in the network then see your property, with that rate, in their booking tool and often in the programme's own hotel directory.

Without a programme, an agent can still book you if they search for your property by name. What they cannot do is find you when they search by city and rate code for a client with a managed travel policy, which is how most agency bookings are made. The booking itself still arrives through Amadeus, Sabre or Travelport as normal.

Why agency demand is worth having

Agency and TMC demand behaves differently from the demand most properties already see through online travel agents.

  • It is weighted towards business travel. Most of the 24 programmes for 2027 report a corporate share of 65 percent or higher.
  • It arrives midweek, filling Monday to Thursday.
  • It is booked through travel policies. Being on a programme's approved list is what puts you in front of the traveller.
  • It is less seasonal, following the working calendar rather than the holiday calendar.
  • Some networks also carry groups, meetings and events.

The 2027 programmes

The networks vary widely in size and focus. ABC Global Services reaches 90,000 travel advisors in 123 countries. American Express GBT operates in more than 140 countries. WIN connects 9,700 agents across more than 150 countries, with half of its bookings placed in Europe. Others are regional or specialist: DERhotel.com reaches around 4,000 German travel agencies, JTB serves Japanese corporate travel, and World Rainbow Hotels focuses on LGBT+ leisure travel.

Every programme falls into one of two commercial models.

  • Commission only. No participation fee. You pay agency commission, usually 10 percent, on bookings the network delivers. If it delivers nothing, it costs nothing.
  • Fee bearing. An annual participation fee, paid in advance. Most award places through a submission with a fixed deadline, and acceptance is not guaranteed.

Where to start for 2027

Submissions for several of the larger managed TMC programmes, including American Express GBT, BCD Travel and FCM Travel, closed in September and October. For a property new to consortia, that matters less than it might seem.

The no fee programmes are the right starting point in any case. ABC Global Services, One Global Travel, THOR and WIN work on commission only and have no submission deadline, so they can be joined once your GDS connection is live. They carry no upfront cost and produce something the fee bearing programmes cannot: twelve months of booking data by source.

That data is what turns the next decision into an assessment rather than a guess. Fee bearing TMC programmes weigh your location and your production history, and a property with neither can pay a fee and still not be selected. Starting with the commission only layer, then adding programmes matched to your own business mix and source markets, avoids that cost.

The remaining published 2027 deadlines run until 31 December 2026, and seven programmes have yet to publish theirs. NextPax GDS Suite partners can find every date, fee and rate code in the knowledge base.

What to expect once you are live

Consortia production compounds rather than arrives. Agents return to properties they have booked before, so a new listing starts out competing on rate and location alone. In competitive city markets, meaningful volume typically emerges around 24 months after going live. The first year is about establishing presence and gathering data.

How to take part

Consortia participation runs on a live GDS connection through the NextPax GDS Suite, powered by reconline and distributing to Amadeus, Sabre and Travelport. Programme rates are loaded against that connection.

  • Already on the NextPax GDS Suite: let reconline know which programmes you want to join at sales@reconline.com. The full 2027 list is in the knowledge base under your partner login.
  • Not yet on the GDS: contact us about connecting. Once you are on board, the reconline team advises on which programmes suit your property.
